With over 20 years’ experience across adult and children’s social care, including social work, specialist commissioning and Best Interests Assessor roles, Maria brings a rare combination of legal, ethical and person-centred expertise, enabling her to work confidently with individuals and families experiencing profound disability, complex needs and system pressures.

Maria’s practice is grounded in a strength-based, trauma-informed and solution-focused approach, recognising how past adversity, marginalisation and system experiences shape trust, behaviour and engagement. Maria works sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that assessments, decision-making and care planning are respectful, inclusive and aligned with each person’s values, identity and lived experience.

Maria has particular expertise supporting people with autism, learning disabilities, communication needs and behaviours that can challenge, and she is highly skilled at working through periods of transition, uncertainty and risk. In complex situations, she helps people feel heard, understood and meaningfully involved in decisions about their lives. Maria applies a strong working knowledge of eligibility, safeguarding, advocacy and carers’ rights.

In rehabilitation and complex care contexts, Maria excels at developing bespoke, multi-disciplinary support plans that integrate health, social care, education, legal and commissioning systems. She creates balanced, outcome-focused care packages that promote autonomy, independence and dignity while managing cost-effectiveness, accountability, risk and collaboration.
