Dr Amirah Iqbal
Dr Amirah Iqbal is a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist who has experience working with children, adults and their families in both the statutory and voluntary sectors, since 2006 and specifically as a psychologist since 2011.
Amirah has previous experience working in a NHS community mental health service, the charity sector providing assessment and psychological therapy to trauma survivors, and within GP and CAMHS services, assessing and treating people across the lifespan, presenting with mild, moderate and severe mental health problems.
Most recently, she has worked at the Tavistock while undertaking additional training in IAPT systemic and family practice. Within this role, Amirah offers assessment and family therapy to families, working closely with statutory and multi-agency networks, providing consultation to professional teams.
Amirah is passionate about working with multi-agencies and in multi-disciplinary ways and holistically, as an integrative counselling psychologist, specialising in working with diverse groups of people, utilising humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches. She also values the transpersonal which takes into account the mind, body and spiritual self, and a sensorimotor approach, which utilises a person’s physical, emotional and mental states in order to manage and gently relieve the physical sensations associated with trauma.
Amirah has made a number of presentations of her research at conferences, and has publications in various journals for her work, notably having an interest in vicarious trauma in professional groups.
